Wire Silver with Polybasite & Stephanite Ps. after Polybasite & Argentite, Oaxaca, Mexico
A prospector would have jumped for joy when coming across this spectacular silver ore sample from Oaxaca, Mexico. Wire silver is complemented by the less well-known “thorny” habit of Acanthite (after Argentite), along with one of the ruby silvers (Polybasite) in association with Stephanite ps after Argentite (as Acanthite at standard temperature and pressure). The calcite host rock fluoresces a hot reddish-pink. The light blue coloration observable in the UV photo is caused by minor residues of a former mounting material.
