Spinel on Matrix
Spinel on Matrix
Spinel on Matrix, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin District, Mandalay, Myanmar
It has been nearly impossible to acquire fine quality Spinel specimens from Myanmar (formerly Burma) these days, let alone matrix specimens of Spinel. This piece hosts two classic Burmese "Ruby Spinel" crystals with very sharp, defined, lustrous, octahedral faces and a gemmy, rich purplish-red color, accented by a gemmy, honey-beige phlogopite association. The crystals sit atop a matrix of massive white marble as is typical for this locality. This is an example of a non-pegmatite gem mineral for which many collectors will want to have a good specimen.
Dimensions: 7 × 4 × 3 cm. The two spinels measure 7 x 5 mm and 5 x 3 mm, respectively. Weight: 113.00gr.
