Spangolite with Malachite, Maid of Sunshine Mine, Cochise Co., AZ, USA
Spangolite is a rare and sought-after secondary copper mineral. This thumbnail from the famous Maid of Sunshine Mine presents beautiful, exceptionally well crystallized, gemmy blue spangolite paired with both botryoidal and acicular varieties of Kelly-green Malachite. I deduce from the crystalline habit that the yellow, curvilinear crystals are aragonite (not tested). This specimen is mesmerizing when viewed under magnification. These specimens are very difficult to acquire.
