At first glance, this sparkling rhodochrosite sourced from the famous N’Chwaning Mine suggests a botryoidal habit. The surface is actually comprised of microcrystalline rhombohedra of gemmy transparent rhodochrosite druse. The spherical elements have formed around a white core, which transitions to an incredible salmon-pink center and lovely pink crust, as seen in cross-section. The specimen literally shimmers in the light! Minor scuffing is evident upon close examination, as expected for a 40-ish-year-old find.
