Polydymite with Chalcopyrite on Dolomite
Polydymite with Chalcopyrite on Dolomite
Polydymite with Chalcopyrite on Dolomite, Sweetwater Mine, Ellington, Missouri, USA RARE
Polydymite is a rare nickel sulfide found in (1) carbonate depositional environments permeated by hot, saline metalliferous brine and (2) hydrothermal cobalt-nickel deposits. It has been identified as a mineral occurring in the Sweetwater Mine, a carbonate depositional environment, making this locality significant for those interested in collecting or studying this important mineral. While it is known to occur in the Sweetwater Mine, it is considered a rare find. This specimen was acquired from Jerry Carter/MineraLogic in 2013 and has remained uncirculated since.
Mounted in a clear acrylic perky box with the original, 2013-dated MineraLogic label. Ex Coll. Jerry Carter/Mineralogic 2013.
Dimensions: 30 x 25 x 22 mm.
MINDAT Specimen ID: 28Q-KK0. As of the original posting date, it is the only specimen of Polybdemite sourced from the Stillwater Mine shown in the public archives of MinDat.
