Olivenite with Malachite
Olivenite with Malachite
Olivenite with Malachite, Tintic Mining District, Utah Co., Utah, USA
This TN presents deep green, gemmy olivenite from the historic Tintic District of Utah. It’s definitely an old timer, judging from the yellowing typewritten label. The sparkly olivenite contrasts beautifully with the goethite gossan. Close up, the olivenite shows textbook, translucent, lustrous, radiating lathes and aggregates. What I especially like about this specimen is the exquisitely crystallized vugs: one featuring fibrous, botryoidal malachite, the other a lime-green unknown which I believe to be Cornwallite (not tested). To top it all off, the olivenite is generously capped by spherulitic aggregates and reniform crusts of a creamy white, microcrystalline unknown which strongly resembles Arsenocrandallite from the Centennial Eureka Mine of the Tintic Mining District (Mindat ID 5PH-91N).
Dimensions: 22 x 12 x 10 mm.
