Dioptase with Plancheite, Kaokoveld, Kunene Region, Namibia
Superb emerald-green, translucent gemmy dioptase deposited on amorphous pastel powder-blue Plancheite. Kaokoveld dioptase is considered on par with that of Tsumeb for color, clarity, and luster, and presents an intriguing, elongated habit I find most appealing. There are only four images of this combination in the Mindat photo gallery, from which I infer that it is a rare occurrence. Sourced from Clive Queit in the mid-1980s, this has remained in a private collection ever since.
