Cuprite with Wulfenite
Cuprite with Wulfenite
Cuprite with Wulfenite, Tsumeb Mine, Namibia
This TN features exquisite, gemmy, ruby- to cochonal-red cuprite crystals with textbook habit, adamantine luster and abundant, complex penetration twinning. Many are flawless and transparent, with glittering, mirror-smooth faces. Lustrous, water-clear calcite rhombehdra add aesthetic contrast. The wulfenite crystals are pastel yellow and translucent, and for the most part mm-size, but for one prominent crystal measuring 5 x 8 mm perched prominently on one end of the specimen. It is completely encrusted with small xls of water clear calcite rhombs, hexagonal prismatic mimetite, gemmy cuprite and – possibly – ankerite (not analyzed). This noteworthy specimen was sourced from the renowned Tsumeb collector Clive Queit almost forty years ago and has been uncirculated in a private collection ever since.
Dimensions: 25 x 12 x 10 mm.
