Cuprite
Cuprite, Dikuluwe Mine, Sicomines copper-cobalt proj., Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DRC
A remarkable, sparkling, solid mass of lustrous, burgundy-red octahedral crystals of cuprite with rich internal color that literally glows under direct lighting!. Dikuluwe Mine cuprites are difficult to come by – only six photos are presented in the Mindat gallery. This specimen was acquired in the mid-1980s and has remained uncirculated in a private collection since. Minor clipping is evident upon examination under magnification, but this is not readily apparent to the naked eye, nor does it diminish from the presentation. Both sides of this unique find are pictured.
Dimensions: 65 x 60 x 5 mm. Individual octahedra to 5 mm. Weight 2.9 oz/81 g.
