Cornetite with Chrysocolla, Pseudomalachite and Heterogenite, L'Etoile du Congo M., Katanga DRC
RARE & TYPE LOCALITY!
This rich, sculptural small cabinet specimen presents stalactitical and reniform masses of banded blue-green, gemmy chrysocolla coated by spherical aggregates of translucent Brunswick-green pseudomalachite, in turn coated by a first-generation layer of electric blue cornetite, yielding to a later stage royal-blue form. A final coating of light green microcrystalline species forms a pleasing complement to the cornetite. Other areas feature concentric zones of deep green to teal blue banded chrysocolla yielding to a core of cryptocrystalline material, which appears to be comprised of probable heterogenite (black), along with apple green libethenite (?) sprinkled with turquoise blue grains of chrysocolla. The piece has not been analyzed, and additional species are likely to be present. The base includes patches of bubbly, translucent dark heterogenite. As seen in the video, the effect of the sparkling, variegated hues coupled with the glassy chrysocolla banding and cryptocrystalline cores is pure eye candy. Self-standing.
