Carrollite
Carrollite
Carrollite, Kamoya Sud (South) II Mine, Kamoya, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
This specimen, sourced from arguably the finest locality in Africa, if not the world, presents a single mirror-bright, sharp carrollite crystal with gorgeous striations, perched aesthetically on dolomite and host matrix. The piece is self-standing and displays well. The largest crystal measures 15 x 12 x 6 mm and presents a textbook cuboctahedral habit. Carrollite is an uncommon copper, cobalt, nickel sulfide, with the very finest of the species coming from the DRC, notably the Kamboya Sud II Mine. The usual bird nips and brittle fractures are evident, as with so many of the pieces transported out by hand many decades ago.
Dimensions: 40 x 32 x 23 mm.
